Best Time to Visit the Caribbean: A Month-by-Month Guide

There is no single "best" month for the Caribbean, because the region stretches from The Bahamas, just off Florida, to Trinidad and Tobago, just off South America. What there is, is a predictable rhythm: a drier winter and spring, a hotter and wetter summer and fall that overlaps hurricane season, and a calendar full of festivals that can be the best reason of all to pick a date.

This guide breaks the year down month by month so you can match the weather, the crowds and the events to the trip you want.

The Big Picture: Dry Season vs. Hurricane Season

Hurricane season

The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 to November 30. According to NOAA, the climatological peak is around September 10, and most activity occurs from mid-August through mid-October. That does not mean every summer trip is affected, but it does mean flexible bookings and travel insurance matter more in those months.

Dry season

Across much of the region, the drier stretch runs from roughly December through April or May. Saint Lucia's tourism authority, for example, describes its dry season as December to May. These months bring the most reliable beach weather and, not surprisingly, the highest demand and prices.

The southern exception

Islands at the southern edge of the region sit outside the main hurricane belt. Aruba's tourism authority describes the island as generally outside it, and the U.S. State Department notes Trinidad and Tobago rarely experiences hurricanes, although both can still see storms, rain or rough seas in season. That makes islands like Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire popular summer and fall choices.

Month-by-Month Guide

January

Peak-season weather across most islands. In The Bahamas, Junkanoo parades fill Nassau's Bay Street on New Year's Day (and Boxing Day, December 26). In San Juan, the Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián are scheduled for January 21–24, 2027. Book early: January is one of the busiest travel months.

Good for: guaranteed sunshine, Junkanoo, Old San Juan festivities. See Puerto Rico and The Bahamas.

February

Carnival season arrives early in 2027. Trinidad Carnival falls on Monday, February 8 and Tuesday, February 9, 2027, opening with pre-dawn J'Ouvert on Monday. Aruba Carnival's Grand Parades are scheduled for February 6 (San Nicolas) and February 7 (Oranjestad), 2027. French Saint-Martin traditionally celebrates Carnival in February or March.

Good for: Carnival lovers and dry-season beach time. Read our Caribbean Carnival Season guide.

March

Still dry and busy, with spring-break demand from the U.S. and Canada. In Trinidad and Tobago, sea turtle nesting season opens on March 1 and runs to August 31. It is also the last full month of humpback whale season in Samaná Bay, Dominican Republic (roughly January to March).

Good for: wildlife, sailing, and families on spring break. See Dominican Republic.

April

Shoulder season begins in many places, with prices easing after Easter. Jamaica Carnival's Road March in Kingston is set for Sunday, April 4, 2027. Antigua Sailing Week runs April 21–25, 2027. The Cayman Islands' Batabano carnival builds through late April into early May.

Good for: regattas, the start of shoulder-season value. See Jamaica and Antigua & Barbuda.

May

Often one of the best-value months: weather is still mostly dry, crowds thin and hurricane season has not started. The Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival is scheduled for April 30–May 9, 2027. Batabano's main road parade in Grand Cayman typically falls in early May.

Good for: couples, music fans, value-seekers. See St. Lucia and Cayman Islands.

June

Hurricane season officially begins June 1, though early-season activity is usually lighter than the August–October peak. Aruba hosts Aruba Hi-Winds, its big windsurfing event, in June or July. Vincy Mas in St. Vincent runs from late June into early July.

Good for: summer deals; consider the southern islands. See St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

July

Summer carnival season is in full swing. Saint Lucia Carnival builds all month to its Carnival Monday and Tuesday. Antigua Carnival 2027 is scheduled for July 20 to August 3. Barbados' Crop Over festival heads toward its finale.

Good for: festival travel and family summer vacations.

August

Grand Kadooment, the finale of Barbados' Crop Over, falls on the first Monday in August (August 2, 2027). Spicemas, Grenada's carnival, peaks in August with J'Ouvert and its Jab Jab masqueraders. This is also when the hurricane season enters its most active stretch, so book flexible.

Good for: Crop Over and Spicemas. See Barbados and Grenada.

September

Statistically the peak of hurricane season. Many hotels and some restaurants close for seasonal maintenance; Belmond La Samanna in French Saint-Martin, for example, takes a seasonal break each summer and is scheduled to reopen November 15, 2026. If you travel now, choose southern islands, check cancellation terms carefully and buy insurance.

Good for: deep discounts for flexible travelers.

October

Still within the active part of the season, but quieter islands start reopening. Dominica's World Creole Music Festival takes place October 23–25, 2026 in Roseau, and Saint Lucia celebrates Creole Heritage Month, culminating in Jounen Kwéyòl. Cayman Brac kicks off Pirates Week on October 30–31, 2026.

Good for: culture lovers and shoulder-season prices. See Dominica.

November

Hurricane season ends November 30, and the region gears up for winter. Pirates Week moves to Grand Cayman on November 6–14, 2026. Antigua & Barbuda Art Week runs November 11–18, 2026. Early November is often a sweet spot before holiday pricing.

Good for: pre-holiday value and returning sunshine.

December

Dry season returns and so do the crowds, especially from mid-December. Junkanoo fills Nassau on Boxing Day (December 26). In Saint Lucia, the Festival of Lights brightens Castries on December 13, the eve of National Day.

Good for: holiday escapes; book months ahead.

  3. Insure summer and fall trips. Look for policies that cover weather disruptions.
  4. Ask about seasonal closures. Some boutique hotels close in September and October.
